OMG, I was thinking about driving my beetle to save money on gas, but after watching this video, I think it is best left as an artifact. That *****.

um, considering that the top speed of most beetles is 65/70 mph, this is most likely the worst you could do in a frontal collision, unless you were drunk or asleep. thats not too bad for something that is essentially the same as it was when it became a reality in 1934. and for 1934 standards, one could say it was far ahead of the curve due to the fact that in the event of an accident it actually absorbed some of the impact, instead of transferring everything directly to the passengers.

I choose the Beetle. If both are going to implode like a bad souffle, I’d rather drive the one that doesn’t look like a shipping crate. A little refurbishment, and I think the Beetle could look quite respectable. Either that, or I’d revamp it into a Baja.

come on friends the beetles is an design from 1938 that was even before world war 2 and in the late 40 and early 50 nobody cares about an uber save car the main reason was better badly driven as good walking :-)

The first years of the MK 2 Golf/Rabbit failed compared with the old Beetle due to the construction. It was “too soft”.

The newer MK 2 Golf/Rabbit have been reinforced. Would make sense to compare a MK 2 Golf/Rabbit without the triangle window in the front doors -> that would be a newer model with the reinforced front.
