i’m sure it could be done in the stock engine location, kennedy engineering makes and adaptor kit for just about any motor to use the stock wv transaxle. i’ve seen one turbo inline 4 before, don’t think it fit cleanly though

914s have a type IV…it’s not an uprated Beetle motor.
Your dad swapped one in less than 20 minutes?? Yeah, right!
What did he do for a cooling system? Unless it went into a Baja with no rear body work, it would have to be converted to upright cooling.
dude…my dad swapped the motor from a orsche 914 into his beetle in less than 20 minutes. it took four bolts. it was the easiest motor swap I ever saw. I know the 914’s got just an uprated beetle motor, but stil, it’s a porsche motor that drops right in. I’ve never witnessed such an easy engine swap
My god some idiots are replying to this video. Porsche engines dont bolt ’straight in’. This is most probably an engine built on a type 1 or type 4 BEETLE crankcase, but a bigger CC and big carbs. Maybe its fuel injected, the german lookers like doing that too :).
And its rear wheel drive.

great driving, great sound off that revy little flat 4 aswel.
on Sep 1st, 2009 at 4:20 am
a flat 4 porka engine is a beetle engine, a type 4 crankcase, and quite frankly unless tuned they are **** compared to the type 1
on Sep 2nd, 2009 at 2:19 am
Maybe if you used the valve cover as an arm rest. The motor is mounted in the rear. Lots of fab work would have to be done.
on Sep 7th, 2009 at 3:51 am
any of you guys reckon it would be possible to get an sr20 into a beetle?

Das ist doch nich Echt das is ne PC Montage … das sieht man doch xD…
That is fake … a computer Video …

no mods around the engine bay are needed. The stock type IV (even my 2270) is narrower than a stock type I
on Sep 10th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
Porsche IV engines don’t fit straight in, they need mods around the engine bay as they are wider than a standard engine:)
on Sep 11th, 2009 at 1:50 am
thepmiester,
Type IV’s are not quite a “drop straight in” thing. No body mods for a type IV.
